10 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your E-Cigarette Experience

E-Cigarette Experience
Choice between cigarette and e-cigarette

More and more smokers and ex-smokers have decided to try electronic cigarettes for various reasons. Some are trying to use e-cigarettes as smoking cessation devices, some have turned to e-cigarettes because as ex-smokers, they still have an oral fixation, and some use it for health reasons. If you are considering switching to electronic cigarettes, there are some tips and tricks that you should understand in order to get the most out of your experience.

  1. E-cigarettes are not cheap, so put some thought into what style you would like to purchase and how you are going to use the device. Make sure that when you shop for your starter kit, you get the best value for your money, without compromising on quality.
  2. Electronic cigarettes run on rechargeable batteries, so have extra batteries on hand. There is nothing worse than wanting to ‘vape’ and having your e-cig run out of power. If you are driving long distances, you may also want to make sure that you have a way of charging your device in your car via whatever adapter is appropriate for your car. Charged e-cigarettes will give you more powerful vapor, so you should be able to tell when you need to plug in!
  3. A word of caution: use your device for a while before you decide to purchase all of the extra accessories. Often a user will decide the device they have is not what they want. There are many styles out there, some for social smokers, some for all-day smokers, and some for occasional smokers. There are different looks and styles and colors. Before you take the plunge and spend money, make sure you like the device you purchased.
  4. Have extra atomizers with you at all times. Atomizers are prone to plugging which will decrease the vapor that is delivered to you. Atomizers can be cleaned, so change them often and clean them each time you switch them out. Some users use an ultrasound to clean their atomizers.
  5. Test out each cartridge in the starter kit to make sure they aren’t defective. This is also good policy when you buy replacement cartridges. If they are defective, contact the company and request replacements. Most companies will provide you with replacement cartridges free of charge.
  6. Cartridges come in varying strengths of nicotine. While studies vary on the amount of nicotine you receive while vaping, you will want to start with the lowest possible concentration of nicotine and, if need be, work up to what your body needs. A lower nicotine concentration means a smoother feel on your throat. Nicotine concentrations generally start at zero percent and go all the way up to about three percent.
  7. Unlike smoking a tobacco cigarette, you need to take long, slow draws on your e-cigarette for maximum flavor, pleasure and nicotine intake. Take a few smaller puffs at first to prime the atomizer.
  8. You may find that your throat dries out when vaping. This is because some of the ingredients used in the e-liquid attract moisture. Therefore, to keep from getting a sore throat while vaping, be sure to maintain hydration. Drink, drink, drink!
  9. Once you understand how your e-cigarette works, you can experiment with flavors and nicotine content. There are DIY kits so that you can mix your own e-liquid in volume and add to replaceable cartridges. Be sure to explore! There are hundreds of available flavors from which to choose.
  10. You will, of course, need a carrying case to carry all of your equipment and small maintenance tools. Don’t leave home without your hardware.
